Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) is a chronic nerve condition caused by certain chemotherapy medications that damage peripheral nerves. Symptoms commonly include burning pain, numbness, tingling, hypersensitivity to temperature, weakness, and abnormal sensations in the hands, feet, or both.
CIPN may develop during chemotherapy treatment or even after treatment has ended. In many cases, symptoms become severe enough that patients consider stopping important cancer therapies due to the pain and discomfort associated with neuropathy.
